Step into a world of mystery, magic, and the supernatural in this special showcase of opera scenes inspired by ghostly tales and eery encounters.
Featuring extracts from:
- Humperdinck – Hänsel und Gretel
- Menotti – The Medium
- Holst – Sāvitri
- Verdi – Macbeth
- Offenbach – Die Rheinnixen
- Britten – The Turn of the Screw
These scenes explore haunting folklore, haunted atmospheres, and the uncanny forces that drive some of opera’s most compelling stories.
Highlights
- Enjoy two iconic opera ensembles: Offenbach’s Barcarolle. Performed with a twist, and Humperdinck’s Evening Prayer, one of opera’s most touching duets.
- Experience music from Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, widely considered one of the greatest operatic masterpieces of the 20th century.
- Discover Holst’s rarely performed Sāvitri, written by Gustav Holst during his tenure as Director of Music at Morley College (1907–1924).
