Opening of Duck Shooting season - Vigil at Parliament House

Another duck and quail shooting season will begin on 18 March in Victoria.
If you can’t make it to the wetlands for duck rescue - join us to show your opposition to this barbaric slaughter when shotguns start blasting ducks from the sky on wetlands across Victoria at 8am.
We will be meeting on Parliament steps at 7:45am to be present and in mourning when the shooting starts. Both houses of Parliament are sitting on this day.
Please wear black and bring any signs and noise makers you wish to bring- we will have signs and banners and tvs.
Most Victorians are staunchly opposed to shooting of our native wildlife, with many believing it to be illegal after a Parliamentary Inquiry recommended its banning.
Last year, 487,800 ducks were "officially" reported shot on Victorian wetlands, which would mean with wounding estimates, a further 121,200 ducks were left to die slow painful deaths.
On average 178,000 Stubble Quail are victims of shooting each year. We have no estimates on quail wounding. Particularly in the wake of recent devastating bushfires across Victoria, including widespread grass fires that have destroyed large areas of quail habitat — serious questions remain about how many quails survived, and estimates of quail numbers done by the government are shonky at best.
We strongly encourage people to join the Coalition Against Duck Shooting or Geelong Duck Rescue and attend the wetlands for the opening of duck shooting. But if you cant attend for whatever reason, come along to this vigil and tell the Victorian Government that we have had enough of this state sanctioned violence which panders to a miniscule amount of the population.
NOTE: This is a campaign against violence. Considering the intense violent nature of duck and quail shooting, by attending this event you commit to a non-violent/peaceful approach with each other and members of the public by upholding a calm and non-confrontational demeanour.
This is an inclusive event for all.
Any behaviour that is discriminatory, harmful or exclusionary will not be tolerated. Please treat everyone with kindness and respect.
We acknowledge that this event takes place on the land of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin nation. We pay respect to First Nations elders, past, present and emerging, and pay respect to First Nations people who chose to attend.
Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
