About this Event

Ten North Group proudly presents UNBOUND: The Gaze Within – The Photography of Angèle Etoundi Essamba, opening in honor of Women’s History Month at the Ten North Group Campus in the historic Opa-locka Arts District.

On view through May 20, this powerful exhibition features 25 works by internationally acclaimed Cameroonian photographer Angèle Etoundi Essamba. Celebrated for her striking portrayals of Black women, Essamba’s work centers on dignity, interiority, and self-definition.

“The gaze within” reflects the commanding yet contemplative presence of her subjects, while “unbound” represents freedom from imposed narratives and the reclamation of identity. Together, the portraits form a profound meditation on self-possession, presence, and the quiet strength of womanhood.
