About this Event
The UK is a global leader in producing rich, structured digital reporting data. Yet historically, this information has been locked in silos, difficult to access, and challenging to analyse.
The Financial Reporting Council (FRC), in collaboration with the Open Data Institute (ODI), is hosting a hackathon to accelerate the use of UK structured data.
Moving beyond high-level discussion, this session is designed to bring together people from across the ecosystem, from government policymakers and regulators to developers, investors, and FinTechs, to identify friction points and co-create practical solutions.
In this hackathon, we’ll address the following challenges:
- Research and innovation: How can we unlock structured data to support research and innovation?
- SME and charity support: How can structured data support SMEs and charities with access to finance/funding and support growth?
- Investor insights: How can structured data better support investors, including retail investors?
- AI optimisation: How can we optimise structured data for AI?
Participants will work to identify exactly where data flows are currently broken: pinpointing whether the barriers are technical (eg, file formats, API access), operational (eg, timing of filings), or cultural. We will move quickly from problem definition to designing "Target Operating Models." This involves rapid prototyping of use cases (eg, credit risk dashboards, investment screening tools) to demonstrate the immediate value of high-quality structured data.
Who should participate?
We are looking for active problem-solvers to shape the future of the UK’s data economy:
- Developers, Data Scientists, FinTech/RegTech innovators, Investors, Analysts, Accountants, and Academics
Introductory session
On Thursday 26 March, 14:30-16:30 GMT, we’re holding an introductory session for those unfamiliar with XBRL-structured data, and also defining more challenges for the hackathon itself.
Both sessions will take place at the FRC offices.
