Lead vocalist bass players like Catalina Ciortea are far too few!!! But it's not an easy business controlling the rhythm and driving the artistic direction vocally. It's like being the cook in the galley and the captain steering the ship.
To quote the bass playing lead singer Les Claypool "when the going gets tough and the stomach acids flow, cold wind of conformity is nipping at your nose, a tricky little atrocity has brought you too your knees...come with us we'll sail the seas of cheese". These prophetic lines from the Primus 1988 album "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" did in fact bring me to my knees and made me want to pick up a bass guitar, snap my surfboard in twain and begin my career as a bass playing singer dude that would become a house hold name.
But a bass player, a household name??? Surely I jest? It would be indeed like sailing through a dairy heavy fondue-esque ocean. A singer, a bass player..it just doesn't work they'd say. No one wants it. Nobody needs it!
But people..pfft. When did we ever listen to people?

BIO -
Catalina is a soul indie pop singer and bassist who started her musical songwriting journey as a child. Born and raised in Romania, but experimenting with her musical style in Berlin she draws inspiration from artists like Florence + The Machine, FKA Twigs and Jorja Smith, using music as an extension of herself. The complex feelings of being a stranger in a foreign country, love, heartbreak and womanhood are beautifully packaged in soulful, melancholical and whimsical sounds.
