Speaking the Language of the C-Suite: From Credibility to Strategy in Data & AI Leadership

Liz’s session bridges the art of leadership with the science of strategic alignment.

She will explore how Data and AI professionals can build trusted relationships with senior executives, communicate impact with confidence, and design strategies that elevate data-driven decision-making.

Through real-world examples and interactive discussion, attendees will gain a practical, actionable framework for developing a Data & AI strategy that resonates with the C-suite, balances innovation with organisational priorities, and strengthens confidence in digital transformation initiatives.

Key Takeaways

  • How to build executive presence and credibility with senior leaders.
  • Techniques for achieving true strategic alignment between data initiatives and business goals.
  • A practical framework for integrating AI and emerging technologies into the business roadmap.
  • Stories of Data Leaders who transformed influence into measurable strategic impact.
  • Space for collaborative discussion, exploring barriers and solutions in real-world leadership scenarios.

Self-Determination Theory and the Future of Inclusive Open Source Development

Many proprietary software solutions unintentionally exclude vast groups of people, especially those with accessibility needs or neurodivergent experiences. One powerful way to understand - and address - these gaps is through Self-Determination Theory (SDT), a psychological framework centred on autonomy, competence, and connection.

This session explores:

  • What Self-Determination Theory is and why it matters in technology design.
  • How SDT helps us understand the experiences of under-served and digitally excluded users.
  • How open-source development practices can enhance user autonomy and foster more inclusive digital ecosystems.

Attendees will leave with a new lens for understanding diverse user needs, along with practical insights into how open-source approaches can fuel innovation, reduce digital exclusion, and support more empowering and equitable user experiences.
