Evanston hosted its first Opals Walk for Freedom in 2023, join us in 2026 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the nation! This symbolic event will honor the journey of the nation, reflecting on the progress made and the challenges ahead, by “Celebrating freedom from the 19th of June to the 4th of July.”
As a host city we will spotlight the resilience and spirit of the American people, fostering a sense of national pride and unity because “July 4th freed the land, but Juneteenth freed the people.”
The walk will be a tribute to the diverse voices and communities that make up the U.S., demonstrating that freedom is a shared value worth celebrating.

ROUTE DETAILS: Start at Cafe Au Lake, head north on path towards Northwestern, turn around at landfill, head south on path towards Lee Street Beach, turn around at dead end, head back north taking eastern path closer to the water, merge back on main path and head north towards Cafe Au Lake. Start location address: Arrington Lagoon, 1647 Sheridan
