In April, Duluth 101 is Onigamiinsing 101, as members of our indigenous community present, "This is Our Homeland: The Resilience of Duluth’s Inter-Tribal Indigenous Community."
Learn about the initiatives and contributions made by the Ojibwe and Dakota people in Duluth, the modern history of Duluth’s Native American community, the American Indian Community Housing Organization (AICHO, Duluth’s First Urban Native Cultural Center), and all of the Indigenous talent in the area! Social time at 5:30 pm, presentation begins at 6. Free event!
Among our presenters:
LeAnn Littlewolf (she/her, Anishinaabe Tribal Citizen, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe) is Executive Director for the American Indian Community Housing Organization (AICHO) and has worked for three decades in advocacy, direct services, and community leadership. LeAnn brings an Indigenous approach to community and economic development and expertise in trauma-informed, culturally-based strategies. She holds a Master degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership and a Master degree in Education.
Makwawigwamikwe Marlena Boedigheimer is a saxophonist and improviser born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, and is an enrolled member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
She holds a Master of Music in Improvisation from the University of Michigan, and works for the American Indian Community Housing Organization (AICHO) in Duluth.
Her musical projects center around the use of the Ojibwe language, Anishinaabemowin, as well as stories from her relatives and ancestors, aiming to raise awareness of the history of her people and the contemporary Ojibwe world.
