On Kee Jazz Experience: A Night of Jazz and R&B

Founded in 1993 by the visionary Lenny McLean, ON KEE has established a remarkable and consistent presence in the realm of refined live jazz entertainment. The genesis of this esteemed ensemble can be traced back to performances alongside the nationally recognized recording act ‘Classic Example, ’a group skillfully produced by the renowned Maurice Starr. It was through this initial collaboration that the musicians discovered a profound shared passion for the intricate art of jazz and the compelling expression of original compositions. This pivotal realization propelled them into the vibrant and dynamic jazz community of Boston, Massachusetts.

Following Lenny McLean's relocation to Maryland, ON KEE seamlessly transitioned their musical activities to the vibrant DC/Maryland region. They actively participated in numerous events, including a Lupus Foundation fundraiser held in Glen Burnie, Maryland, in April 2008, demonstrating their continued commitment to supporting charitable causes.

ON KEE's performances have graced a wide array of venues throughout the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area, reflecting their broad appeal and versatility. These include notable establishments such as the Maryland Live Casino in Hanover, Maryland, where they bring their sophisticated jazz stylings to a diverse audience. In Virginia, they have performed at the elegant Carlyle Club and The Westin Alexandria Hotel, captivating audiences with their refined sound. Their presence has also been felt in the nation's capital at the Brencore Music Festival, Bowie Center for the Performing Arts. Within Baltimore City, they have entertained patrons of the culturally significant Reginald F. Lewis Art Museum as well as the lively Baltimore Inner Harbor. Further engagements include performances at the popular Lake Arbor Jazz Festival in Mitchellville, Maryland, and the intimate Takoma Station in Washington, D.C. ON KEE has also been a featured act at the Southern Maryland Wine, Jazz, R&B and Funk Festival, showcasing their ability to resonate with diverse musical tastes. On Kee had the honor of performing with the great Nikki Giovanni at the Washington, DC location of Busboys and Poets. The band has also been selected for the Jubilee Homes Music Showcase Sunday Series in Syracuse, NY. In addition to these public performances, ON KEE remains a sought-after ensemble for numerous private engagements, adding a touch of sophisticated musical elegance to weddings, birthday celebrations, and corporate functions.

The distinctive and captivating jazz sound of ON KEE is a direct result of the rich and diverse collaborative efforts of talented musicians hailing from both the vibrant musical hub of Boston, Massachusetts, and the dynamic DC/Maryland area. Following his move to Maryland, Lenny McLean skillfully established a second iteration of the ON KEE Jazz Band, carefully selecting accomplished musicians from the local DC/Maryland region.
