About this Event
An important aspect of being an effective practitioner is developing a series of lessons with and for a client. However, it is rare to have an advanced training opportunity where a pre-FI® series is presented and supported with thorough discussion as well additional videos to clarify handling, self-use, etc. All this is such an opportunity in an atmosphere of no judgment, and no use of the phrase "it depends," without going on to state what it depends on.
A series of lessons with one person
For this online program, you will receive four full FI lessons with New England colleague Fan Elouz who was dealing with a painful knee with back pain "on top." For each recorded lesson there is a significant pre-FI walking video, a post-FI work to bridge into walking, as well as observed and commented walking. Additionally, I will make FI handling videos so that you can understand and therefore practice what you see in the main FI. Those additional videos will be made in response to the group's questions and queries regarding the sent FIs.
Online Format
We will have 10 (three-hour) online sessions (Olena, as you know, previously added additional meetings at no further cost). These meetings will include an ATM® corresponding to relationships worked within the FI, and time for questions, discussions, and clarifications.
Recordings of ZOOM meetings
Each online meeting will be recorded and the recordings will be sent out within 48 hours. If you have to miss a meeting, you will have plenty of time to catch up before the next online meeting.
Zoom Link
The ZOOM link will be sent out a week before the online meeting and again, on that day, for the first session and the following sessions, in the early morning of that day's session.
From a participant of last year's Part 1 program:
"Olena's patience, generosity, and expertise during the course of the "workshop" (that feels like an inadequate word), have quite literally transformed my practice. I feel like the mists have lifted and I "get" the bigger picture of FI, beyond the hand holds and "exact" angles of things. At the beginning of the year, I was a little puzzled about why I was even doing FI, when ATM's are so rich? Now, in addition to more returning FI students, I have people from my ATM classes who may feel that they have plateaued, or worse, who feel they can "do" it all, (and I, myself, kind of fell into that last category), come in, and together we find much deeper levels to their organization. And the best thing? Now I am much clearer about the "gestalt" of an FI, I feel I "know in my bones" the direction to go in to improve if that makes sense." WK
INTRO and video teasers
In January 2024, I gave a series of FIs to a few colleagues in Winchendon, MA. We will start this course with 4 FI lessons with Fan Elouz who was dealing with knee pain and more recent back discomfort. While I am sorry that Fan was in pain, seeing a series with someone in active pain and discomfort is very useful. In the video clips below, you will see that I give a lot of attention to standing up, clarifying the use of each leg, and bringing in the participation of the whole self, including the eyes. Standing up and sitting down is an issue with a painful knee, but adding a hurting back magnifies the complexity.
But, imagine my disquiet when Fan walked after the first FI, and reported an odd pain in her ankle! A pain that had not been there previously. THAT is enough to throw a practitioner off ... What did I do that brought on that pain? Is there anything I can do to have that pain go away? Should I do something? If yes, what? But, how can I possibly even think, since this is the end of the session and I am freaked out that a new pain has appeared? Moreover, this is the first session. Surely this person will not come back! (well, Fan was kind of a captive client)
So, to interest you ... I am enclosing three videos: one pre- and two post-the FI. To see the FI lesson itself, sign up!
Three videos to entice you. ...The final one shows how a last bit of work in sitting not only eliminated the ankle pain but allowed the work of the session to manifest in her whole way of walking. Whew!

A solution is found,
WHAT I HOPE YOU WILL GAIN FROM THIS SERIES:
- Further biomechanical understanding, skeletal clarification, and more insight into how to work with the whole person to facilitate improvement for hips knees, and dare I add ankles and the back?
- Greater confidence to use the FI approaches/methodologies and thinking that I bring to many situations
- More clarity regarding hand holds and contacts used for support, differentiation, and for generating force vectors to guide connections
- Further appreciation of thinking about length, ease, and support. during any FI lesson
- Working "after" the lesson to guide movement distinctions which are more effective for coming up to stand and orienting.. This is much more interesting than setting up a reference movement before a lesson and returning to it. Educating for full body expression of intention.
- Be immersed in happy discoveries in yourself during the ATMs
SYNOPSIS
Pre-recorded FI lessons, will be sent in advance to the online meeting. You will receive them in time to view and experiment before the ZOOM meeting. Each of the 10, three-hour meetings, will start with a discussion as needed, relevant ATM, and proceed to more questions and discussions. The topic will often be the relevance of the ATM to the FI work, clarification about strategizing, handling, sequencing, and fundamental learning within the FI. Each online meeting will be recorded and sent to participants within 48 hours. This allows for review as well as for catch-up when you might miss a meeting.

LIVE 4-Day MENTORING WORKSHOP
The follow-up live workshop will provide additional mentoring, discussions, hands-on, and development of themes from the online course. This literal "hands on" mentoring is particularly useful for refining handling skills and self-use while maintaining the thread of a lesson. The whole "gestalt" of what flows together for effective communication with the client's nervous system can be addressed in the living moment.
In 2024, thanks to one of the participants, we had the opportunity to have a person "from the public" come in for three lessons during our four-day event. She had never had a Functional Integration® lesson and was still in recovery from having shattered her femur in a rather unusual accident in her home. Participants found this to be a very moving experience since working with a person from the public is much more than giving a series of competent lessons. It entails bringing them on board with the approaches and concepts of the Feldenkrais Method® while respecting what they think, how they see themselves, and how they believe recovery can happen. This can be a frustrating aspect of working with the public, and a great aspect of the work to witness as it is evolving in "real time." We have no idea whether this is what we will include in the in-person event in 2025, but it is certainly not out of the question while still providing time for practice.

WHO CAN JOIN the LIVE EVENT
By joining the online training, you can attend the follow-up live training. You cannot attend the live event without participating in Part 2 online. The goal is to have this advanced training where everyone has been prepared with the same material, discussions, and experiences. The more that you utilize and practice the material in the online course, the more prepared you will be for the in-person segment.
REGISTRATION
This live workshop has a separate registration page and fee. Again, we will be at the Arlington Center, Arlington, MA from June 13-16, 2025. Scroll to the bottom of this page to go directly to the registration page (if it's still there) or add this to your browser:

Audio-video recording and still photo agreement in ZOOM and live:
It is understood by registering for this workshop, you agree that your participation and involvement be recorded and shared with other participants. It is too time-consuming to re-edit material to remove a person's presence and delays sending the videos promptly. Thank you. By participating in this Zoom program, you also permit Olena to share video clips, at her discretion, with incoming students interested in participating in her programs.
