About this Event
Old New Year's Eve at DROM Taberna co-presented with LinkMusicLab
Thanks to a far-sighted Roman general, who so totally crossed the Rubicon, we have been blessed with many interpretations of the New Year. For over 1600 years, the Julian calendar predominated in Western culture until Pope Gregory XIII changed it over to our current version of time calculation. In any case, the Julian Calendar still predominates in North Macedonia, Russia, Scotland, Serbia and Wales, amongst other nations.
In partnership with Link Music Lab, we cordially invite you to our Old New Years celebration, bringing together the cultures of the old world, here in the historic meeting place on Turtle Island.
We will have performances from DIVKA and Glava Lava featuring Marichka.
DIVKA is a dynamic duo known for their cunning plucking, and wily word weaving. They embody a village girls' rebel reckoning, fusing mythologies, traditional village singing, and generations of femme power, mystic whimsy, and vengeance into a mesmerizing femme fatale force.
With sharp tongues and a deep passion for ethnomusicology, Alina Kuzma and Zoë Ëoz bring a unique sonic experience using bygone folk songs from global women's music-making traditions. DIVKA weaves a sonic constellation of delicate arpeggios and guttural ancient invocations.
Co-Presented by Link Music Lab, Glava Lava is a balkan-style brass band specializing in global folk music, with a rotating case of DROM Legends, led by Tangi Ropars.
Link Music Lab is a Toronto-based artist collective & not-for-profit that strives to be a catalyst for content creation, bringing communities together through innovative and inclusive music.
Link Music Lab employs an ethnomusicological approach to collaboratively developing concert, recording and artist marketing initiatives with member artists at all levels of career.
Kicking off 2026, Link Music Lab is introducing the Experimental Link Series contemplates the Persian-Canadian experience by reinvigorating, re-exploring and re-imagining Persian traditional music within contemporary and cosmopolitan Toronto by inviting different musicians from the diaspora to collaborate and perform together. The series will explore connections between identity, culture, and musical creation.
Link Music Lab acknowledges the generous support of Canada Heritage, Toronto Arts Council, and Canada Council for the Arts.
