Explore portrait painting from a live model with teaching artist Paulo Ruvalcaba! Students will learn how to simplify facial features into shapes and values to create a likeness of the model on a 12” x 16” canvas panel. Paulo will demonstrate the painting process form beginning to end and assist individually throughout the workshop. Students will be able to choose their color palette from monochrome in Burnt Sienna, two-tone with white and black or Limited (Zorn) Palette in Titanium White, Ivory Black, Cadmium Red Light and Yellow Ochre.This one-day workshop will be taught on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
This class is for ages 16 and over. The cost of the one-day workshop is $60 per person. All skill levels are welcome and all materials are provided. Preregistration is required and space is limited. The course will be held inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center located at 123 N 10th St., Santa Paula, CA. Free parking is available directly behind the building and students may enter through the front or back door.
