About this Event

Everyday, wherever we look, we see suffering at the hands of the ruling class. From imperialist Zionist aggression in Iran, to the humanitarian crisis in Cuba threatening lives due to decades of sanctions, to the genocide of Palestinians and the growing enclosure of Lebanon’s borders. From immigrants snatched and kidnapped, families and communities torn apart by ICE down south to the exposure of the filthy Epstein class. As our class enemies advance their pursuit of profit day after day, the global working class continues to suffer through war, dispossession, displacement, and life in refugee camps.

Here in Canada, with cuts to OSAP, job insecurity, and skyrocketing costs of living, the working class is forced into daily battles of hustling and survival. Workers live paycheque to paycheque, burdened by debt, with eroded prospects for stability—forced to chase side hustles or viral moments online to seize their entrepreneurial opportunity. Repression continues to increase, as we see post-9/11 surveillance and policing measures recycled through the new TPS anti-terrorism task force.

It feels like our world is in a constant state of crisis, as though we are on the brink of a point of no return. The pessimism, hopelessness, and climate of fear created by this cycle of crisis and war must be countered with revolutionary optimism. While we may lack control over our lives, we do not lack power, but we must build it together.

Post-COVID, organizing has become more popular across the left in Toronto. As inequality grows, so does the agitation amongst the masses, and the false veneer of the Canadian social welfare state has been stripped. This has amounted to us increasingly realizing the need to defend working class communities and take care of one another.

But we have to ask ourselves what are we organizing towards? Our neighbourhoods continue to face exploitation, surveillance, and oppression at the hands of the capitalist class. How many more rallies? How many more building repair and pest control fights? How many more evictions do we fight till we are not fighting for crumbs? Do we want to make capitalism hurt a little less, or work towards a society where everyone is collectively taken care of and provided with a flourishing and dignified life?

The only way forward in the face of these attacks is to root ourselves firmly among the people and advance the class struggle. Through neighbourhood organizing, we can build collective strength—defending our communities while going off the defensive against our class enemies.

Join us on Sunday April 19 as we launch our new organization to the public, discuss neighbourhood organizing and the possibilities on advancing the class struggle. If you are interested in learning about, joining or working with us to advance the fight of the working class, join us. Register on Eventbrite to attend.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Child care will be available.
