UNC Charlotte Department of Dance is thrilled to invite you to virtually participate in the annual Odyssey/Odissi Conference on May 1st, 2026, presented by Dr. Kaustavi Sarkar and the UNC Charlotte Department of Dance.Odyssey/Odissi at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is in its sixth iteration bringing together artists, educators, scholars, and students while focusing on diasporic Indian arts through community-engaged research. This conference previously ran as Odissi Odyssey, focusing on the eastern Indian traditional art form of Odissi dance that remains a marginalized interdisciplinary practice. However, from 2026 on, the focus continues to remain on Odissi with a slight shift as we democratize the platform to wider audiences, crafts, and art forms. This conference seeks to create a forum for choreographic explorations and critical scholarship that both experiment with and interrogate labels and forms. We welcome research that brings fresh perspectives to dance history, pedagogy, and aesthetics, and that engages with the multiple ways movement continues to evolve as a dynamic living tradition.
