Advanced Workshop - Connection: Accelerating Ideas
This advanced workshop, titled “CONNECTION,” is for alums of The OpEd Project’s core “Write To Change The World” workshop and Public Voices Fellowship only. The advanced workshop is based on our flagship fellowship curriculum, and we offer it very rarely to the public. It focuses on connecting people and ideas across time, space, expertise and identity - and on accelerating our ideas by investing in the diversity of our knowledge sets. This workshop will make each of us smarter, individually, and also more intelligent collectively.
Our virtual workshops use interactive video to connect participants with each other (in pairs, in small groups, and as a cohort) via virtual chat rooms. Because our workshops are based on discovery through group interaction, we ask all participants to commit to the full workshop experience (start to finish).
Participants emerge with:
- Tools to generate new ideas
- Tactics for being timely at any time
- An outline for a draft op-ed - on an idea only you can write, but might never have thought of before
- A network of diverse peers amongst whom you have the potential to increase your and our intelligence
- The workshop culminates in the entire group writing an op-ed together - an exercise in collaborative action.
- All participants will have follow-up access to our journalist mentors for individual feedback on their op-ed drafts.
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for individuals who have already completed our "Write to Change the World" Core workshop. We welcome people of all identities, backgrounds, genders and positions. We seek to always overrepresent the underrepresented, including women. As our curriculum is based on expanding our thinking, it is suitable for those with or without publishing experience.
Scholarships
The OpEd Project is building a sustainable model for social justice. Our public workshops are designed to break even (with neither profit or loss) while providing scholarships for up to 30% of participants in any workshop. Scholarship application here.
