Octet Victoria is delighted to present their spring concert featuring secular choral music exploring themes of love, birdsong, and nature. Beautiful a cappella music spanning the 16th to 21st centuries will transport you through time and space. Music ranges from Renaissance composer Clément Janequin’s virtuosic “Les chants des oiseaux”, to Caroline Shaw’s modern take on a madrigal “Dolce Cantavi”. Other gems include Sir Charles Villiers Stanford’s “The Blue Bird”, Robert Pearsall’s “Lay a Garland”, and works by Benjamin Britten, Felix Mendelssohn, and Claude Debussy.
With spring comes brightness, growth, and renewal. We hope this programme propels you joyfully into summer!

Octet Victoria is a professional group of eight singers who are committed to choral excellence and artistry in Victoria, BC. Founded by Char Hodgkins in 2022, Octet Victoria has performed a wide range of repertoire including staples of traditional choral music such as motets by J.S. Bach and J. Brahms, as well as new music by Canadian composers including Ruth Watson Henderson, Stephanie Martin, and Nathaniel Dett.
Octet Victoria makes music on the unceded ancestral lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen), now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt nations. We are grateful for their stewardship of these beautiful lands that nurture, inspire, and sustain us.
