About this Programme
Asia’s plastic pollution inflicts $1.3 billion in damages annually to economies in the region. The big questions remain: who is going to clean up our seas? What is a viable alternative to plastic? How do we change behaviours toward the ocean? This is where we come in -- by turning pollution into solutions. By drawing on her personal experiences and profound knowledge on ocean conservation and plastic pollution, our CEO and Founder, Mathilda D’Silva will bring you on an engaging and informative session on the story behind our founding, why we do what we do and our projects under the three key pillars: Plastic to Fuel, Bioremediation and Bioplastics and Behavioural Change. Our oceans are a shared and valuable resource. Through this session, we hope you can be inspired to play your part in protecting our oceans. Let’s start today to save tomorrow!
This programme is targetted at a general audience, including teens and those aged 50 and above.
Please note:
Please note that presentation slides may be available during or after the programme, depending on the programme. Where applicable, only participants who attend the programme can have access to the slides via instructions given during the programme.
About the Speaker
Although she is now a professional environmentalist, the 42-year-old wears many hats and has seemingly boundless energy. In her career and personal life, she has been a singer, actress, TV producer, radio DJ, social media manager, athlete and now, she’s a full-time social entrepreneur. Today Mathilda is the Founder and CEO of the Ocean Purpose Project and uses her talents in Sustainability and Social Media Strategy, Plastic Pyrolysis (Plastic to Fuel) Advocacy, and Community Management Coaching. Mathilda is also an avid paddling enthusiast who dragonboated competitively for 7 years till a fateful dragon boat race in the idyllic yet polluted waters of Boracay, Philippines set her life on a journey of finding purpose through sickness. She aims to right the wrongs of water pollution by creating multiple purpose projects focused on ocean conservation and reducing water pollution. Mathilda speaks on a wide range of topics, namely on how social entrepreneurship needs to work in partnership more than ever and disrupt itself with the latest technology.
About the Organisation
Ocean Purpose Project is a proudly Pasir Ris based social enterprise founded by Mathilda D'Silva in 2020. Our goal? To create a movement that drives ocean conservation and plastic pollution prevention via disruptive and creative projects at mass-scale impact. Our greatest award is the love and partnership we receive from the community of indigenous peoples, ecosystems, islanders, fishermen, cleaners and grassroots leaders who we serve on a daily basis- honouring the knowledge they possess of our coastlines.
