NYC Queer Dance Through the Decades Panel
Featuring Christian John Wikane, Michael Roberson, and Hugh Ryan
Dance party to follow
This Pride, Greenlight celebrates the history of queer dance culture in New York City, from the 60s to the 90s, with an incredible panel of authors: Christian John Wikane, Michael Roberson, and Hugh Ryan! Wikane's A Night at the Disco is a celebration of groundbreaking dance music from 1970 to 1979, illustrating how artists spanning soul, pop, disco, funk, jazz and rock defined nightlife throughout the decade and influenced popular music to the present day. Roberson's Ballroom: A History, A Movement, A Celebration, is a gorgeous and authoritative image-filled celebration of pageantry and community, exploring how Ballroom has served the Black and Brown LGBTQIA+ community since the 1960s. And Ryan's My Bad: A Personal History of the Queer Nineties and Beyond, is a powerful and hilarious personal history that tells his experience of the queer club scene of the ’90s and how it offered possibilities to queer weirdos in an otherwise un-fabulous time. Following the panel discussion, join us for a book signing and dance party with music curated by the panelists!
