About this Event
Rethinking Urban Nature in Singapore: A outdoor poetry picnic
In a city where pigeons live in skyscrapers and polar bears in glass boxes, we’re all just trying to figure out where we belong.
In our upcoming session, we're having a discussion at the park on Elsewhere, the Cosmos Cracks by Chrystal Ho, a poetry collection that explores local landscapes and tiny wonders amidst the climate crisis.
We’ve selected three poems - Confession, Public Housing for Pigeons, and Poem for a Polar Bear - and we’ll discuss how we think about displacement, belonging, and what it truly means to see the place you live. They're invitations to notice the creatures and places we usually overlook.
What to Expect
This 9 May, No Regrets Book Club and Urban Birds Initiative are bringing these ideas together for an afternoon of reading, reflection, and creative thinking at Singapore Botanic Gardens.
We'll read and chat about the poems, do some creative hands-on activities to reimagine urban ecology, and have real conversation about what home means in a changing world. It will be chill, thoughtful, and fun. Just bring your curiousity and an open mind, no poetry experience needed. Oh, and your own drinks and snacks!

About No Readgrets Book Club
No Readgrets is a women-led book club that creates safe spaces for meaningful conversations around inspiring books and the ideas that extend beyond their pages. We facilitate discussions on literature and film from local creators and about social issues in Singapore, exploring the everyday lives that inspire fiction and the larger forces that shape non-fiction. Because the best part of reading a good book? Telling everyone about it.
About Urban Birds Initiative Singapore
Urban Birds Initiative Singapore is a ground-up collective working toward compassionate coexistence between humans and urban wildlife like pigeons, crows, and mynas in Singapore. They push for humane alternatives like better waste management and community education, to shift in how we see these birds, from pests to sentient beings that share our urban spaces.
