No Fear Shakespeare: The TempestA One-Day Workshop
Presented by Oslo English Players
Unlock the power of Shakespeare’s language and bring his characters to life—no prior experience required.
Step into the world of Shakespeare without fear in this immersive, one-day workshop designed to make the Bard accessible, engaging, and deeply relevant. Whether you are new to Shakespeare or an experienced theatre-maker, this workshop offers a practical, hands-on approach to understanding and performing his work.
Run by Oslo English Players and led by a seasoned instructor with both academic and acting experience, this session focuses on Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Often considered one of Shakespeare’s most imaginative and complex plays, The Tempest explores themes of power and control, exile and colonisation, forgiveness, illusion, and transformation—questions that continue to resonate strongly today.
Through guided text analysis, vocal work, movement, and collaborative scene study, you will break down the barriers of Shakespeare’s verse and prose. Together, we’ll explore how language creates magic, authority, and resistance—and how Shakespeare’s words come alive through performance.
What You’ll Gain:
- Language and Text Skills
Learn practical tools for decoding Shakespeare’s language, discovering meaning, rhythm, imagery, and emotional depth within the text.
- Voice and Performance Practice
Develop vocal clarity, emotional connection, and physical presence to express the text with confidence and authenticity.
- Scene Study and Acting
Work collaboratively on selected scenes from The Tempest, rehearsing and performing in a supportive, creative environment.
By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of The Tempest, a stronger connection to Shakespeare’s language, and a toolkit for approaching his plays with confidence—whether for performance, study, or personal exploration.
All levels of experience are welcome. Bring curiosity, openness, and a willingness to engage. This is Shakespeare as you’ve never experienced him before: imaginative, physical, emotionally rich—and alive.
