No Borders Trio is a dynamic string trio committed to breaking down barriers through live music centred around the performance of classical music in diverse community settings, such as hospitals, care homes, schools and arts venues across Scotland. The trio consists of Frances Patterson (Violin), Suzanne Godet (Viola) and Joanna Stark (Cello), all recent graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with previous experience of volunteering with non-for-profit organisations such as the Nevis Ensemble and in Dementia Day Care centres. The group formed in early 2023 through their shared passion for chamber music and drive to build stronger links between music and communities.
In 2026 they were awarded the Chamber Music Scotland Small Venues Touring Fund to tour their new Soundbath concept across rural Scotland. Inspired by meditation techniques, this soundbath concert series will focus on the journey of the listener through the music of Wolfgang Van Schweinitz. They are very excited about this new collaboration with the Los Angeles based composer, which will open new development in their versatile portfolio.
"No Borders string trio is delighted to welcome you in their special new concert series exploring a new way to experience music, called soundbath.
The concert will be around the piece by Wolfgang Von Schweinitz called Klang auf Schön Berg La Monte Young, a string trio composed in 1999 and revised in 2013. This 45 min long piece consists of sustained microtonal harmonies which very gradually resolve to major harmonies. The piece comprises lots of swelling in dynamics with various motives coming in and out to introduce a news layers playing with the tension/release of the harmony.
The composer was inspired by La Monte Young and on the Indian Raga. The word raga means “colour” and in Indian Classical music, the role of Raga is to colour the mind of the listener with improvised music, set with specific rules varying according to the season, the mood or the emotion.
