This year, Stratford middle school’s Night of the Arts will boast a 21st century’s rendition of Don Zoldis’s play “OZ.” The story follows Beth, a teenage girl who recently lost her sister in a tragic car crash. In her grief, Beth imagines herself as a reluctant Dorothy, striving to find the Wizard of Oz to help bring her sister back to life. Along the way, Beth meets all the obvious characters like Scarecrow, Tinman, and Cowardly Lion. Together they venture to Oz and discuss the process of “moving on” and honoring our eternal loved ones. While the play does divulge and explore deep concepts about life and death, the play is structured as a comedy. Students of all ages and parents alike will enjoy this new-age take of the Wizard of Oz and watch our amazing 7th and 8th grade drama class bring their characters to life!
