About this Event

Wedge Studio, Mindy Seu, Da’Shaunae Marissa and Ben Sanders: Get tickets for April’s Nicer Tuesdays in LA!

Nicer Tuesdays is landing in Los Angeles once again! We’re back with a spring edition and this events line-up promises to bring some fresh inspiration with talks on all things branding, design, publishing, photography and paint!

After the success of Nicer Tuesday’s debut in LA last November, we’re coming back for round two this April with another stellar line up of talks. Join us at The Vermont Hollywood 1020 N Vermont Ave, on Tuesday 14 April.

At next month’s event, you can expect talks from Wedge Studio, an LA and Montreal-based creative company shaping some of the most beautiful branding and packaging today, as well as artist, technologist and creator of the Cyberfeminism Index Mindy Seu whose research-driven practice on technology, performance and publishing on the history of the internet and digital art has led her to the creation of her latest book: A Sexual History of the Internet.

We will also be joined by LA-based artist and photojournalist Da’Shaunae Marissa who will be giving us an insight into how she has been using her multidisciplinary practice to reimagine traditional visual narratives across photography, film, and public art projects. And last but not least LA-based artist and designer Ben Sanders will be taking to the stage to take us on a tour of his precise and abstract painted world of food, drinks, logos, found design imagery, gardens, and post-human landscapes.

The event will take place on Tuesday 14 April at The Vermont Hollywood in Los Angeles. Doors will open at 7pm and the talks will begin around 7:30pm. The full address is The Vermont Hollywood, 1020 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029. For parking, there is valet available for $20 directly in front of the venue, free self-parking at the adjacent Subway shopping center (1018 N Vermont Ave), or free street parking in the neighbourhood. This is a seated event, so get there early to ensure a seat.

Please be aware that photography and filming may be taken at this event for marketing and promotional purposes. If you do not want to be photographed or filmed, please speak to our team on the day. Also, if you are in need of disability access, please email [email protected] so we can arrange assistance with the venue team.

Wedge Studio

Whether it’s flooding the sterile beauty space with colour or bringing a sense of heritage back to food packaging we’ve watched LA and Montreal-based studio Wedge’s vibrant visual world shape the voices of some of the best looking brands in fashion, food, culture and beyond. At our next Nicer Tuesdays in Los Angeles, co-founder and design director, Justin Lortie and creative director, Sarah Di Domenico will be taking the Nicer Tuesdays crowd through the award winning studios distinct approach, giving us a look into into a few of their most recent projects to show us just how Wedge builds visual systems to tell brand stories with heaps of character.

Mindy Seu

Following the Cyberfeminism Index, a format-defying compendium of cyberfeminist works from the 1980s to the present day, designer, researcher and educator Mindy Seu’s latest book came in the form of a palm-sized set of pages that look quite like a bible (if the bible was all about sex and the internet, that is). Joining us in LA next month, Mindy will be taking us behind the scenes of A Sexual History of the Internet, her recent publication-cum-performance-piece designed in collaboration with Laura Coombs. A book that started its life as an in-person lecture performance, now immortalised in over 700 printed pages, the project gathers ‘anecdotes, artworks, and historical artefacts that reveal the pervasive and perverted origins of our digital tools’.

Da’Shaunae Marissa

A photographer and filmmaker that started her career in photojournalism, Da’Shaunae Marissa’s work has since touched the pages of publications like The National Geographic, The New York Times and The Washington Post. Initially drawn to the medium as ia way to “communicate the beauty and complexity of Black life in America and around the world”, the LA-based multi-disciplinary artist’s expansive practice now spans formats further-a-field to investigate the subject matter like archival research, editorial commissions, documentary and photo collage. Da’Shaunae will be taking to the stage at LA’s Nicer Tuesdays next month to give us a more intimate insight into her process, revealing how she is creating space for healing, joy, and creative expansion in her personal projects.

Ben Sanders

Artist and designer Ben Sanders’ medium of choice is paint but it’s not always used in a conventional way. His graphic artworks of food, drinks, logos, found design imagery, gardens and post-human landscapes all come to life atop surfaces ranging from planting pots and shop signs to enlarged metal bottle caps. A welcomed break from the everyday, Ben’s bold visual style has shaped global commissions for clients including Nike, Louis Vuitton, Bloomberg and The New York Times. The artist will be joining us for our second Nicer Tuesdays event in town to talk the LA crowd through his explorations of the possibilities of paint and his precise, abstract visual world.

Timings for the evening: doors open at 7pm and the talks will begin around 7.30pm.

Please note that a 10% facility fee is included in the ticket price.

Photography and filming may be taken at this event for marketing and promotional purposes. If you do not want to be photographed or filmed, please speak to our team on the day.
