This month we’re screening A Tribe Called Love, a powerful Toronto-made debut directed by Mohamed Ahmed.
Set in a Somali neighbourhood in Toronto, the film follows Farah and Halima, two teenagers whose love story unfolds in defiance of deep-rooted tribal divisions. When life pulls them apart, their relationship ends abruptly. Years later, they reconnect as adults, only to find that the same cultural barriers still remain.
A contemporary reimagining of Romeo and Juliet, A Tribe Called Love explores the tension between love, identity, and inherited histories, asking whether it’s possible to move beyond what we’ve been taught to hold onto.
