About this Event
The Georgetown Department of Performing Arts invites you to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Davis Center through a one-night, original performance, "Roosevelt vs. Jonathan Edwards," created and led by contemporary artist Tara Mateik.
Overview
Mateik's performance connects the Davis Center to its origins as the university's first gymnasium in 1906. Responding to archival records and biographical information concerning the gym and its users, Mateik's performance is both historical fantasy and political intervention as he embodies President Theodore Roosevelt in a must-see, one-night-only boxing spectacle.
This performance is given as part of the exhibition, Gym Time, curated by Assistant Professor Van Tran Nguyen and Natalie Fleming, PhD, and located in the Davis Center Lobby from January 7 - February 27th.
Through the juxtaposition of historical photographs and text, Gym Time celebrates Davis as a leading performing arts center in the context of its longer history as a space for viewing and presenting Georgetown's student body/ies.
