Local historian and author Steven Horton will give a walking tour of Newsham Park and some of the surrounding roads at 11am on Saturday 7th March 2026.Steven will tell the history of the park, some of the events that have taken place there (including a visit by Buffalo Bill) and some of the residents of the large houses around the perimeter. These include Newsham House (Judges Lodging), where Queen Victoria once stayed and residences of senior local politicians and sportspeople. He will also talk about the huge Seamans Orphanage and have some dark tales to tell.
The tour will start and finish from Newsham Park Hospital (former orphanage), 11b Orphan Drive, L6 7UL There is plenty of street parking around here.
The cost is £5 per adult, free for 17 and under. Either cash or contactless payment on the day.
