Start 2026 with a memorable sunrise hike in great company. Join Abigail's Trails on a hike up the iconic Pendle for sunrise on New Year's Day. Enjoy a peaceful sunrise with a group of like-minded individuals at the summit of Pendle Hill.We will set off before dawn and walk to the summit following the Pendle Way and up the infamous steps! Once at the Trig point we'll settle in for a view of the sunrise, over Burnley and its surrounding countryside, having our hot drinks / snacks as we enjoy the tranquility. Feeling smug about seeing the first sunrise of the year, we'll make our way down on moorland paths and back over farmland of Barley Hill to Barley Village.
This 4 mile (7km) circular route has an elevation of 1,140ft (330m) with some steepness up the steps. We will aim to complete this route within 2.5 hours, including the break at the top to enjoy the sunrise.
Plans may be altered due to the weather, but we do walk in all weather (unless dangerous to do so), so please take note of the Kit List that will be sent out on booking.
Children and well-behaved, friendly (with other dogs and people), agile dogs (max. 2 per person) are welcome. Please note we are likely to encounter livestock enroute, so dogs will have to be on leads for parts of this route.
As with all Abigail's Trails, this is a small-group guided walk led by a professional Mountain Leader. Spaces are limited, cost £12 (if bought before midday on 28th September) or £16 thereafter per person and must be booked in advance.
