About this Event
Up until 1991, during the Cold War, Eurasia was divided along a geopolitical boundary. While on one side, the capitalist Western Bloc contained some of the world's most prized and illustrious vineyards, such as Tuscany, Burgundy, Rioja and the Mosel; the vineyards of the socialist Eastern Bloc were mainly cultivated for the mass production and consumption of alcohol at affordable prices. However, these nations have a long history of making interesting wines with indigenous varieties stretching back thousands of years.
Take Georgia, for example, where in some circles it is believed they invented winemaking some 8,000 years ago! Since the dissolution of this border and the opening up of these states, they've been undergoing a vinous revolution and the quality is top-notch. We've been absolutely fascinated by regions such as Prekmurje, Kakheti and Tokaj; and grapes such as Mtsvane and Saperavi. An exciting tasting for those willing to venture into the lesser known.
Our shop tastings start at 7.30pm and run for approximately one-and-a-half to two hours. We will taste 6-8 wines on a theme, and bread, cheese and charcuterie is provided to match with the wines. Due to the communal nature of the tasting, we are unable to cater for dietary requirements.
