Join us for a series of intimate folk concerts at Cullercoats Watch House, a unique and quirky venue in the heart of Cullercoats.
Tickets are on sale for an exclusive evening concert from one of the greatest fiddle players in the history of Irish music, Kevin Burke. This is a small venue, so please book early!
** We are also inviting expressions of interest for an afternoon workshop session. Please contact us if you are interested in taking part. Workshop description: Come and meet Kevin Burke for 90 minutes of conversation and demonstrations of the many aspects of Irish Fiddle Music. Bring along all those questions you’ve always wanted to ask, both specific and general – anything from bowing to ornaments, rhythms to repertoire, practicing to performing. Improve your playing and knowledge of the music, and, who knows, you might even learn a new tune.
Kevin Burke
One of the greatest fiddlers of this or any generation, Kevin Burke is known far and wide, a legend in traditional Irish music. His bow has driven the Bothy Band, Patrick Street, Open House and Celtic Fiddle Festival. He was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship in the US, and in Ireland the prestigious Gradam Ceoil Award His solo performances of flawless unaccompanied fiddle, delivered with humorous stories of the tunes and their makers, are an absolute delight. Kevin’s easy and welcoming manner leaves the audience feeling like privileged guests, and with a richer understanding of this great tradition. In whatever context, be it guesting with Dervish or Lunasa, with Christy Moore, in a band, or solo, Kevin Burke’s fiddle is a dynamic melodic force, the voice of the master.
“A fiddle icon.” Irish Music Magazine
“Solo fiddle really doesn’t come much better than this.” Alex Monaghan, Folk World
“A lyrical player of emotional electricity.” The Washington Post
“Burke imparts a rhythmic intensity that is remarkably powerful…a superior instrumentalist in any idiom…impressively virtuosic.” The New York Times
There will also be a short support set (artist tbc)
