Nev Clay +Hoverdonkey
£10 advance £12.50 on the door
In 2019 I was asked if I could take the wonderful Mary Hampton up to Newcastle for an all dayer she was doing for Richard Dawson. I of course looked up who else was playing and saw the name Nev Clay. I’d heard this name reverently dropped by other well respected musicians but had not heard any of his music. Within a few minutes of his set starting I knew I was seeing something special. Two songs in and I was completely smitten.
In his own words Nev Clay has been ‘clarting about’ the Newcastle music scene for 30+ years. Playing and telling stories about the local area and the people that live there, inspiring young musicians and estalished artists alike with his beautiful guitar playing and lyrical genius
A show in the south is a very rare thing indeed, although he did venture down to do session for Riley and Coe on BBC Radio 6 in 2025 after the release of his album ‘So little happened for so long’.
FUP is therefore absolutely overjoyed and a little shell shocked to have him make the trip down to play a one off show in Bognor Regis. This is not part of a tour so an incredibly rare opportunity for us Southerners to experience the legend that is Nev Clay.
“everybody who hears him falls in love, and I’ve seen it happen time and time again.” – KLOF Magazine
“A hugely skilled guitarist… Nev makes what he does look effortless, but his is a unique talent. ” – Gus Ironside, Louder Than War
