Have you taken a previous Nerdlesque for Newbies class and feel the urge to take your performance to the next level? Now's your chance to polish those rhinestones, sharpen your skills, and embrace the Dark Side as Geekenders offers you a chance to join the Empire in our brand-new class offering: Nerdlesque For 'Twobies'*!
*(not a duets class, we here at Geekenders just like the pun!)
What's all this then?
Join your instructor/Stormtrooper Captain La Dame Derrière as she takes you through a six-week progressive class to learn some intermediate-advanced choreography/formations, refine your sense of stage presence and performance, and brush up on the basics, history, and theory of burlesque.
This gender-inclusive, body-positive intensive for performers will cover what goes into creating professional-level production numbers that are fun, cheeky, funny, and created to your level to make you look your best!
This class culminates in a group performance in Geekenders' newest show, 'Some Like It Hoth: A Sci-fi Burlesque Cabaret' Performed at the York Theatre on May 5th, 2024.
What do you need?
Yourself, a person of any age, background, or gender(optional)
A desire to perform, an eagerness to learn, and a willingness to get outside your comfort zone!
A tolerance for puns
As this is an Intermediate-lavel class, previous experience/comfort in a dance-class environment is helpful!
You will be guided through the process of creating a costume for this number: details will be discussed the first week of class.

Cost:
$180 for six classes, and a performance!

Theme:
The Stormtroopers are the villainous babes with legs for days, out to conquer the stars with their bumps, grinds, and fierce attitude. They're always a dazzling and deadly delight to our Star Wars-themed showcases- even with their improbable aiming skills.
Style:
This piece will be a classic showgirl style, with influences from jazz, ballet, and musical theatre, with a nerdy twist.

We are offering one slot as a sponsorship for a BIPOC artist in our community, so please apply at [email protected].
In order to include more performers, we ask that sponsorships go to people who have not had a sponsored slot in previous Nerdlesque classes before.
Proceeds go toward Geekenders, Showpony Rent, and the instructor’s time.

About The Instructor
La Dame Derrière [she/they] is a potent mix of sensuality, soft curves, and sapphic angst.
She burst onto the burlesque scene in 2017, bringing both high drama from her years as an opera singer and down n' dirty grinds from her experience as a blues dancer. Dame has appeared all over BC since her debut, most notably as the 2022 Queen of the Oregon Burlesque Festival and the 2019 Fresh Face Feature at the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival.
