Nerdlesque for Newbies: Dracula Edition! [COHORT 2]

Vancouver's premiere Nerdlesque troupe has returned from the English Seaside with a taste for blood. Hopefully this doesn't awaken anything in us...

Do you dream of being covered in glitter and rhinestones and shining under the stage lights? Want to embrace your silliest/sexiest/sassiest self? You can fulfill that fantasy with Geekenders' popular Nerdlesque for Newbies class!

What's all this then?

Join your instructor/Vampire Queen Androsia Wilde as she takes you through a six-week progressive class to learn the basics of dance movement, the fundamentals of stage presence and performance, and some of the basics, history, and theory of burlesque.

This gender-inclusive, body-positive intensive for performers will also cover what goes into creating professional-level production numbers that are fun, cheeky, funny, and created to your level to make you look your best!

This class culminates in 2 group performances in Geekenders' newest show, 'DRACULA: A Musical Burlesque Comedy ' Performed at the Historic Cultch Theatre on Sunday September 29th, 2024.

What do you need?

Yourself, a person of any age, background, or gender(optional)

A desire to perform, an eagerness to learn, and a willingness to get outside your comfort zone!

A tolerance for puns

You will be guided through the process of creating a costume for this number: details will be discussed the first week of class.

Cost:

$210 for six classes, and two perfomances as part of the ensemble cast of 'Dracula: A Musical Burlesque Comedy' on Sunday Sept 29th [one matinee performance, one evening performance]!

Proceeds go toward Geekenders, Showpony Rent, a portion of your costuming needs, and the instructor’s time.

These plucky deckhands embark on what turns out to be their last voyage as one of their passengers seems to have a flair for the dramatic... and a taste for human blood. Uhhh... whoops?

Style:

This piece will be a classic showgirl style, with influences from jazz, ballet, and campy musical theatre, with Geekenders' signature nerdy twist.

About The Instructor

"The Bahama Mama of Burlesque" Androsia Wilde [she/her] is the perfect tropical cocktail - a generous pour of burlesque's glitz and tease, splashed with the intoxicating and rhythmic flavours of The Bahamas. This Daughter of Starlight and Seafoam's performing journey spans over 3,000 miles- from the Island Paradise of her birth, to the Pacific Northwest she now calls 'home'- and has taken her through the realms of alternative modeling, martial arts, immersive theatre, acting for television, and of course, burlesque.
With an enchanting stage presence, love of pop-culture, and delight in movement-based storytelling, Androsia has cultivated a decade of experience under her skirts- as a performer, instructor, emcee, and space facilitator. As the Artistic Director of both the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival and her home troupe of Geekenders, Androsia works to showcase her belief that every body, identity, and story deserves to be seen on stage.
