LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY IN THE AMERICA250 MOMENT
National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) is excited to present this opportunity for you in our nation's capital!
Join us in Washington, DC, for a focused, two-and-a-half-day leadership experience designed to strengthen your capacity to lead, advocate, and grow social studies in your state. Set against the national backdrop of America 250, the Summer Leadership Institute leverages the moment to deepen your work—connecting civic milestones with practical strategies for building partnerships, supporting educators, expanding your council’s reach, and advancing key issues in social studies education alongside peers from across the country. Experience the city as we visit three place-based educational sites. Plus, participants can choose to extend their participation by joining an optional Hill Day on Wednesday, July 15, held in partnership with iCivics.
Our agenda includes:
Day 1: National Archives - Monday, July 13 - 9 AM to 4 PM
-Building local relationships to leverage primary source materials in your districts.
-Strengthening your state council through infrastructure evaluation and tips on driving growth.
Day 2: Museum of the Bible - Tuesday, July 14 - 9 AM to 4 PM
-Discussing the importance of religious literacy and how to advocate for meaningful and respectful integration into your state meetings, classrooms, and beyond.
-Supporting pre-service teachers at a state council level.
-Elevating the underrepresented perspectives in your council and state legislature.
Day 3: The People's House - Wednesday, July 15 - 9 AM to 12 PM
-Building your leadership and advocacy network - expanding beyond your state.
