Nautical Navigation Course (2-Day)This immersive, hands-on course is designed to provide paddlers and sailors with essential skills and knowledge for safe and confident navigation on open water. Whether you’re preparing for coastal expeditions or looking to improve your kayaking or sailing skills, this course covers the basics of maritime navigation.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn to read nautical charts, understand tides and currents, and use navigation tools for planning and executing safe routes. You’ll also gain practical experience working with nautical charts, Tide & Current Tables, and other resources under the guidance of qualified instructors.
Key Topics:
-Introduction to nautical charts and symbols (Chart 1)
-Overview of navigation tools (rolling rulers, parallel rulers, compass/divider, square protractor, etc.)
-Route planning, plotting, and hazard identification
-Emergency navigation techniques
-Understanding tides and currents
By the end of the course, participants will be able to confidently plan, plot, and interpret nautical charts, enabling them to make informed decisions and navigate safely in various conditions.
This course is ideal for sea kayakers and sailors of all levels who want to enhance their navigation skills and explore new waters with confidence.
