About this Event

“There are no solitary beings. The whole planet is one giant, living, breathing cell, with all its working parts linked in symbiosis. . . . We do not exist independently." —Thích Nhất Hạnh

Join us for a special session of Tender Possibilities as we explore the theme of nature. We will reflect on water as a symbol of flow, source, and duality—representing both strength and fragility, determination and vulnerability. Together, we will confront the realities of an era where the survival of our planet is uncertain. Departing from traditional forms, we will examine how poetry can address environmental crises and political instabilities. Poetry that investigates the affective, sensory, and historical contours of the environment. Poems that focus on specific experiences amidst climate collapse and late capitalism. We aim to use poetry as a tool to reconnect with the Earth and explore our responsibilities to it.

This session will be facilitated by featured poet Amy Ching-Yan Lam and Tender Possibilities’ founder, Farhia Tato.

Amy Ching-Yan Lam is an artist and writer. Her first book of poetry, Baby Book (2023, Brick Books) was a finalist for the 2023 Governor General’s Literary Awards in Poetry. Other publications include Looty Goes to Heaven (2022, Eastside Projects) and Property Journal (forthcoming 2024, Book Works). From 2006 to 2020 she was part of the duo Life of a Craphead. She lives in Tkaronto/Toronto, and was born in Hong Kong.
