Mistletoe - much maligned and misunderstood....Did you know there are over 90 species of native mistletoe in Australia, all are endemic? As a vital keystone species, they provide important habitat for native wildlife, with research showing higher bird species-richness and abundance where mistletoe occurs. Many Butterflies are also dependent on mistletoes.
In this presentation, Alan Carter will provide a fascinating insight into Mistletoe biology and the important role it plays in the ecosystem. Then we'll explore some of the ways to get more mistletoe back into our natural systems, hearing about methods of seed collecting, germinating and the installation of protective mesh guards on branches.
This is a one hour presentation followed by a cuppa and chat.
