We will be joined by guest speaker, Russ Newton, Senior Fiduciary Strategist with Comerica Bank. Russ will be discussing “Estate Planning: Top 10 Mistakes” during the luncheon.
Russ Newton was a member of a team of expert advisors at Wells Fargo Private Bank. He worked closely with a select group of high net-worth clients ($5mm to $100mm plus) to assist them in growing, managing, protecting and transitioning their wealth. As a result, Russ has experience with many of the more sophisticated estate planning techniques, including, but not limited to, Grantor Trusts, Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts, Non-Grantor Trusts, Generation Skipping Trusts, Spousal Lifetime Access Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Limited Liability Companies, Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, Donor Advised Funds and Private Foundations etc.
His 7 years of practicing law, along with 20 years of experience in all facets of the trust business (business development, trust administration, trust operations and trust compliance), are also used in advising clients. Russ has been very involved in the Houston Community (business organization-wise) for many years and, as a result, he personally knows many attorneys and CPAs. He has been fortunate to receive numerous referrals from his contacts over the years, with the latest being a $100mm prospect in 2019.
During the presentation, Russ will discuss the 12 common mistakes in Estate Planning including procrastinating, DIY, failure to plan, failure to ensure will and beneficiary designations, confusing probate assets with non-probate assets, living trust issues, testamentary trusts, tangible assets, children, not following the plan, and charitable gifts.
