About this Event

Join Old Town School of Folk Music's community initiative, Music Moves for this FREE special West African Dance class with Rokya Ouattara!

Rokya “Kali” Ouattara brings over 20 years of international experience as a dancer, choreographer, and educator to her role as Assistant Artistic Director and Lead Choreographer of . Born and trained in Côte d’Ivoire, she studied for more than a decade at the École de Danse et d’Échange Culturel under the legendary Marie Rose Guiraud. Her career has taken her across Africa and Europe, where she performed with renowned companies including Les Nomades (Switzerland) and collaborated with celebrated choreographers such as Hélène Stuart, Kosua Ghiamph, and Nana Wilson. She has taught and performed widely, with highlights including being named Best Dancer at the Ivory Coast Women’s National Dance and Theatre Festival.

As both an artist and educator, Ouattara is dedicated to sharing the richness of African dance, inspiring audiences worldwide, and nurturing the next generation through creativity, discipline, and cultural pride.

Music Moves is honored to host her here in Chicago!

All levels and ages are welcome, and programming is FREE and open to the public!

**Registration for class is not required, but encouraged!

Music Moves Chicago (MMC) is Old Town School of Folk Music's a place-based, youth-focused, intergenerational initiative that aims to inspire, restore, and transform communities by providing access to high quality arts education, concerts, and workforce readiness through partnerships with community organizations, schools, and other institutions located in South and West side neighborhoods.
