Music Improvisation Workshop based on the Hopscotch Suitewith Clémence Manachère
assisted by Polina Pohozha.
Hopscotch is an improvisational jazz suite created by French flutist, soprano saxophonist, and composer Clémence Manachère. The suite is inspired by the graphic works Chamberworks by architect and artist Daniel Libeskind, where architectural drawing meets contemporary music notation — precise yet chaotic, structured yet explosive.
During the workshop, Clémence will:
• Share the sheet music of the suite
• Introduce the musical language of Hopscotch
• Guide participants through structured improvisation
• Lead group improvisations from solo moments to large ensemble textures
The focus is on building a shared musical language first — and then improvising together, following the “graphic red line” inspired by Chamberworks. We will explore melodic lines, abstract cycles, textures, beauty, chaos, and collective sound creation.
It is open to musicians of all backgrounds who are curious about improvisation.
Participants should bring their instruments (if applicable).
The workshop will be held in English.
The workshop will be assisted by Ukrainian pianist and composer Polina Pohozha.
Participation is free of charge!
