About the book
Pressure Drop: Reggae In The Seventies chronicles reggae’s most tumultuous and influential decade. Unfolding both in Britain and Jamaica, reggae flourished against a backdrop of political upheaval, gang warfare, Black Nationalism, racial and class discrimination, and grinding poverty.
Pressure Drop features interviews and archival adventures with legends of the genre, including Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Augustus Pablo, Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, Chris Blackwell, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Prince Buster, Sly & Robbie, Toots & The Maytals, and U-Roy.
John Masouri
John Masouri is one of the world’s leading authorities on reggae music. He started writing about the genre as early as 1988 for the British Black music magazine Black Echoes, where he is still a leading contributor (now called Echoes magazine). John has written extensively for international reggae magazines such as Riddim (Germany), Reggae Vibes (France), and RM (Japan).
John has previously written official biographies on Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and The Wailers, and explored contemporary reggae with his book Rebel Frequency: Jamaica's Reggae Revival. He has contributed to the Guinness Book of Reggae and the Virgin Encyclopedia of Reggae and ghostwritten numerous biographies for reggae greats including Randy's and VP Records legend Miss Pat, the mother of reggae.
He is currently working on biographies with reggae singer Marcia 'Griffiths, of Bob & Marcia, I `Threes and Electric Boogie fame; and British reggae band UB40, one of the most commercially successful reggae acts of all time.
