About this Event
This hike will include elements of Sutro history, from indigenous days to Adolph Sutro to today. Walk leaders will discuss mountain conservation challenges and successes - big picture and in particular with Woodland Canyon Creek.
We will also observe the native flora and fauna, with special attention to the mushrooms and other fungi that are best observed in winter.
Walk Leaders: Steve Leonoudakis and Emil Fogarino
Steve is an advisory board member with Sutro Stewards, the Mt. Sutro conservation, trail maintenance, and environmental education non-profit. He has acted as a naturalist leader for numerous groups, with particular interests in biodiversity, California native plants, and fungi.
Emil is a former science teacher at George Washington High School and lifetime educator. His focus and interest on marine biology and population studies helps him to understand the Bay Area on an intimate level, which is pivotal in his role with Nature in the City. He's been leading fun & engaging NTC nature walks. He also spends his time volunteering at the Tunnel Tops Field Station and the Presidio Native Plant Nursery.
