About this Event
Becoming a parent is an exciting time, but brings forth so many changes as we add a new role to our lives. Beyond this, we have learned expectations from our own experiences, along with those placed on parents by society. How can we break down these expectations and myths so that we can carve our own paths as new parents without losing sight of the priorities, values, and hopes we have as individuals? The goal of this workshop is to spend time thinking about who you are as an individual and how previous narratives around motherhood have affected us. By doing this you can stay more grounded in your parenting, and help ensure you are better equipped for self care as you take on parenting responsibilities. This workshop is designed for parents to be or new parents.
The workshop format is based on the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) method, where the voice vs perfection is sought. Everything written will be assumed fiction and you will have the option of sharing or not sharing. We speak to the author’s voice: what touched us, what changed us, and how some phrases hold magic. We will have space to write and hold each other with care as we express ourselves through writing prompts and prose.
This workshop is presented by AASECT Certified Sexuality Health Educator, Kara Haug of Reframing our Stories and hosted by Haven for Birth.
$30/person, scholarships available - contact [email protected]
