“Tonight, rules is left at the door. What do you wanna be today? Maid or man? You decide.”
First performed at the National Theatre in 2001, Mark Ravenhill’s bawdy comedy uncovers the secret shenanigans and nocturnal naughtiness behind the closed doors of an 18th century molly house.
Set against a backdrop of persecution, blackmail and the gallows, Mother Clap’s all-male clientele risk their reputations as well as their lives in seeking out each other’s company. Based on true events, Mother Clap’s Molly House is a celebration of the diversity of human sexuality and a gripping account of a hidden chapter of London’s queer history.
By arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. On behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
