About this Event
TCV Haringey and Friends of Railway Fields are running a moth trapping and identification workshop straight after the lovely Dawn Chorus event in the morning. The workshop is part of a global bioblitz event called City Nature Challenge which uses iNaturalist to get the community invovled with recording willdife in their own green spaces.
The workshop is open to people of all levels and abilities, no prior experience of moth ID is needed.
Description of activities:
- Learn how to use iNaturalist to record wildlife
- Learn about moth trapping
- Identify and record moths
What to Bring:
Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear
Magnifiers and Moth ID books/guides if you have them
Meeting Point:
Walk through the iron gates at Railway Fields and meet at the cabin at the top of the track.

Dawn Chorus:
Prior to the moth identification session there will be a a dawn chorus event from 5.25am - 7am where you can take part in a guided walk to listen to bird songs.

If you would like to take part in both sessions just sign up to the Dawn Chorus event and the moth trapping will follow directly on from that.
City Nature Challenge:
The City Nature Challenge is a global bioblitz where cities across the world aim to celebrate biodiversity and promote citizen science. Boroughs across London are taking part and multiple organisations are planning events overseen by the Natural History Museum. The challenge takes place over 4 days from the 26th of April to the 29th of April with multiple activities organised during this period. It utilizes the iNaturalist app, creating an accessible and engaging event for individuals of all levels or expertise.

Railway Fields:
Railway Fields Nature Reserve is in the heart of Harringay, North London, where it offers a piece of tranquillity away from busy Green Lanes. This former disused railway goods yard now boasts a Green Flag award for environmental quality. Among the habitats found here is woodland, scrub, meadow, pond and marshland. Lush vegetation blocks out noise from surrounding streets, and 21 kinds of butterfly have been recorded as well as more than 60 species of birds.
