MORTAL SIN (AUS)Australia's thrash metal pioneers return to Europe. Formed in Sydney in 1985, Mortal Sin were among the very first bands on the continent to play pure thrash metal, blazing a trail from the southern hemisphere at a time when the genre was still taking shape globally. Their debut album Mayhemic Destruction — recorded in just three days at Studio 301 in Sydney and self-released in 1986 — drew immediate attention and was picked up by Vertigo Records for worldwide release in 1987, earning near-perfect scores in the UK metal press and a reputation as a minor classic of the genre. Kerrang! tagged them as the next big thing, and the band went on to tour with Metallica, Testament, Faith No More, and Megadeth, becoming the first Australian thrash band to tour internationally. After multiple breakups and reunions over four decades, Mortal Sin announced their latest comeback in mid-2025 and are now taking the 40th anniversary celebration of Mayhemic Destruction around the world. On August 19th, they bring the mayhem to The Abyss in Gothenburg — expect the album played in full, raw and ferocious, the way it was meant to be heard.
