The Morgantown Crankie Festival is coming to the Monongalia Arts Center on May 30–31!Crankies are hand-cranked “paper movies”—moving panoramic scrolls brought to life with live music and storytelling. Part visual art, part performance, they create a kind of low-tech magic that unfolds scene by scene.
This inaugural festival brings together over 20 visual artists, musicians, and storytellers from West Virginia and beyond. Featured artists include Katherine Fahey and Dan Van Allen (The Lantern Sisters, Maryland), Lindsay McCaw and Hannah Lewis (Michigan), and Peter Stevenson (Wales), alongside a wide range of regional performers.
Each show features a different lineup of crankies—so no two performances are the same!
