About this Event
Data. A dry collection of facts and statistics that provide general assumptions of who we might be. Race, gender, sexuality, age, income level - all common data that governmental agencies, merchants, grant funders and others seek to know. But what does this data tell us about the story of who we are? Of who we are in relation to our communities? To our ancestors? To the land we're in relation with? Does this data offer perspective on the rich histories and cultures of our communities, of our gifts, our challenges, our successes, our sorrows? Often the collection of data sought is done so in a way that reduces us to numbers and percentages, stripping the stories of who we are, excluding the most valuable part of the data - that which is unquantifiable.
We are more than statistical numbers. We are living repositories of generations of rich cultural knowledge and histories.
Join us for "More than numbers: Decolonizing our data through traditional methods".
