About this Event

What happens when you take away the fences but keep the cows… and add a popular public footpath?

Join us at Kinkell Bryre for “Moos on the Mooch”, an afternoon looking at how cattle, people and nature can share the same space.

Host Rory Fyfe will share how he manages his coastal farm, grazing cattle on clifftop and coastal pasture while balancing public access, biodiversity and practical farm work. Rory is using Nofence virtual fencing technology to control where his cows graze without putting up physical fences along the busy coastal footpath.

We’ll be joined by Finlay from Nofence, who’ll explain how the system works in practice – from collars and GPS boundaries to animal behaviour, welfare and what happens when things don’t quite go to plan.

  • Welcome, introductions and tea/coffee
  • Farm walk (around 1 hour) down to the coastal footpath to see the cattle, discuss public access, signage, safety and practicalities of fenceless grazing
  • Return indoors to the Bryre for informal chats, Q&A and snacks
  • Hear directly from Rory and Finlay about: Setting up and managing Nofence on a working farm, working with public access and dog walkers, animal welfare, behaviour and stockmanship with virtual fencing, opportunities and limitations for different farm types

This event is ideal for farmers, crofters, land managers, advisers and anyone curious about nature-friendly, low-infrastructure grazing systems.
