About this Event
🌕 Moonlight Meanders – BLUE MICROMOON (Eve)
Second Full Moon in May | A Rare Occurrence
Date: Saturday, May 30, 2026
Time: 7:00–9:00 PM
Location: Glen Emerald Park & Rock Garden
1479 Bouldercrest Rd, Atlanta, GA 30316
Program Description
May closes with a rare celestial rhythm—a second full moon within the same month, known as a Blue Moon. This 2026 Blue Moon carries added distinction as a micromoon, occurring when the Moon is at one of its farthest points from Earth, casting a softer, more subdued glow across the landscape.
At Glen Emerald Park, that softened light settles across the lake, tree canopy, and open green spaces, creating a noticeably different nighttime experience. Where earlier in the month the Flower Moon highlighted visible abundance, this Blue Micromoon invites a quieter kind of attention. Fireflies begin to emerge, insects shape the soundscape, and reflections across the water shift with even the slightest movement.
Positioned in the region of Scorpius, near the red star Antares—the “heart of the scorpion”—this moon encourages us to notice what is subtle, easily overlooked, and still unfolding. It is less about brightness and more about awareness—less about what stands out, and more about what reveals itself slowly.s us to notice both what is thriving in plain sight and what is quietly sustaining it.
Moon Meaning Sidebar
A Blue Moon is the second full moon within a single calendar month—an infrequent occurrence. This 2026 Blue Moon is also a micromoon, appearing slightly smaller and dimmer due to its distance from Earth. Appearing in the region of Scorpius, it reflects themes of depth, subtlety, and focused awareness.

Weather Contingency
Held rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe.
Where to Meet
Upon parking, make your way toward the path located between the tennis courts, the covered pavilion and playground. This is where we will gather before beginning our guided walk.
What to Bring or Wear
- Closed-toe, supportive footwear
- Comfortable layers for a spring evening
- Refillable water bottle
- Headlamp or flashlight (required)
- Optional: hiking sticks for personal stability
Recommended Ages
Designed for adults, but participants of all ages and abilities are welcome.
What We’ll Do
We’ll begin with a short orientation, then move into a guided evening walk through open park space and around the lake. Along the way, we’ll pause to observe reflections, listen for nighttime wildlife, and explore how reduced moonlight influences what we notice. Reflection moments will connect the Blue Micromoon to themes of rarity, distance, and subtle ecological transitions from late spring into early summer.
Walking Distance
Approximately two hours of relaxed walking along a lake loop that transitions from paved path to natural surfaces. Expect uneven terrain, exposed roots, and rocky sections as we move through the Rock Garden from man-made to more natural substrate.
Accessibility
- Portions of Glen Emerald Park include open grassy areas and uneven terrain.
- Some sections may be less accessible for mobility aids.
- There are no guaranteed restroom facilities available during the program.
- For accessibility needs, contact Naturalist Tasha at [email protected].
