You can’t protect your kid from everything. But you can give them tools to move through the world with awareness, clarity, and strength, and you can learn them together.
This 3-hour workshop is built for moms (or guardians) and their teens to:
- Learn real-world self defense tools that actually work
- Practice setting and holding physical boundaries
- Build shared language around safety, strategy, and trust
No fear-mongering. No scare tactics. Just movement, mindset, and presence, taught side by side.
For: Adult + teen pairs (ages 13–19 welcome).
What to wear: Athletic or comfy clothes.
What to bring: Water, open mind, willingness to laugh.

Susie Kahlich is the founder of Pretty Deadly Self Defense, a user-friendly self defense system she developed based on her experience as a violent crime survivor, solo female traveler, and her 25 years of martial arts training. She is certified in DV awareness and support from University of Sheffield, teen suicide awareness and prevention from the OLLIE Foundation, trained in CBT, trauma awareness and support, and sits on the Board of Directors for Partnerships for Trauma Recovery in Berkeley.
Susie has been teaching self defense since 2009 across the US and Europe, and has worked with violent crime survivors, trauma victims and refugee and immigrant communities on three different continents and in multiple cities around the world. She has given seminars and private workplace consultations on sexual harassment policies for tech start-ups, corporate media, co-working spaces , thinktanks and blockchain companies in Europe and the UK, and has been an invited speaker at TechStars Berlin, UN Women, and GoDaddy Women in Tech EMEA.
Susie launched Pretty Deadly Self Defense as a social impact venture in Berlin in 2016, and has scaled the program across 5 countries, and is the first women's self defense trainer certification program to be accredited by governing sports bodies such as NASM, AFAA, ISSA and CIMSPA.
